WebThe acetabulum is the deep, cup-shaped structure that encloses the head of the femur at the hip joint ( Fig. 9.4 ). It is interesting to note that the acetabulum is formed by a combination of all three bones of the pelvis: the ilium, pubis, and ischium. The lunate surface is the horseshoe-shaped articular superior surface of the acetabulum.
